Despite having some of the poorest wards in England the Lancashire town does not meet the criteria for regeneration programmes and so applied to set up a Neighbourhood Renewal Area in order to tackle the poor state of its private housing stock. Preparation for the submission included neighbourhood meetings to consider training, employment, housing, environmental and business projects, which have since formed a basis for successful bids for EU, SRB and Lottery funding. | ||
