520 _aDiscusses a new voluntary scheme which encourages landowners to keep a full standardised record of the condition, including possible contamination, of their land. It is hoped that the use of the Standard Land Condition Record (LCR), which will provide potential buyers with a logbook giving details of the property's history, will increase investors confidence in the development of brownfield sites. Despite backing from the RICS and a number of other institutions, however, concerns are expressed; that the scheme will remain voluntary, the need for better training of surveyors, how the scheme will interact with existing programmes and the burden administration of the LCR will place on the property industry.
