520 _aExplores the meaning, and scope, of "reasonable adjustment", a requirement of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. The act requires employers to take positive steps to reduce or eliminate disadvantages disabled people may face compared to non-disabled employees. Gives details of section 6, which sets out the possible adjustments and how to approach them. Employers are not expected to make adjustments that enable the employee to function generally. Recommends employers study paragraphs 4.21 onwards of the Code of Practice to gain an appreciation of what is meant by "reasonable" adjustments. These indicate, for instance, that if a disabled person's job is at risk, it is reasonable to spend the amount that would be needed to recruit and train a replacement, on adjustments. Also discusses cost parameters, benefits and pay.
