520 _aDiscusses the Paul Myners report on institutional investment, commissioned by the Treasury and published prior to the 2001 Budget. Suggests its findings will be welcomed by small-to-medium sized companies. For it recognises there are flaws in the investment decision-making process that need to be addressed. Myners is critical, for instance, of index-based benchmarks, suggesting these are imprecise and easily distorted. In addition the report suggests that the asset allocation process is frequently given too little weight in relation to stock selection. Contends that Myners' recommendations will actually do little to help the property industry. Suggests the industry is to blame for many of its problems. If investors are to be encouraged to put more money into the quoted property sector, the property industry must take a long hard look at itself. Recommends that the industry focus on attracting overseas investors.
