520 _aLocal planning authorities are increasingly requiring green transport plans as a prerequisite to the granting of planning permission. The aims of green transport plans (GTPs) are clear: to reduce car use, and increase cycling, walking and the use of public transport. Looks at the principle of GTPs, their content, and issues that should be considered when drafting them. Considers government aims for transport, set out in July 1998 in the policy paper "A new deal for transport: better for everyone", the requirements of PPG13, and its impact on businesses. Suggests practical approaches to preparing GTPs, and recommends they contain a mixture of flexibility and compromise if they are to achieve their aim.
