520 _aExpresses concern that MAFF's programme of sterilisation of buildings on farms affected by foot and mouth is putting important examples of vernacular architecture at risk. Decontamination techniques recommended in MAFF guidance, including pressure hosing and the burning of timber in poor condition, could leave irreplaceable farm buildings weakened or beyond repair. Questions MAFF's ability to provide a co-ordinated strategy to prevent unnecessary damage, with the fate of many structures dependent on the differing interpretations of the guidelines by field officers.
