520			_aAt the North European Property and Investment Exhibition, held in June 2001, the American ambassador to Denmark explained how brownfield development is now a top priority in the US. For instance, the US Conference of Mayors recently declared that brownfield redevelopment is the country's most important environmental and economic challenge. In 1995 a new urban environmental agenda was promoted, which merged cleanup of contaminated sites with economic redevelopment. Since 1995, over 400 grants have been awarded. Moreover, the US Congress is working on national legislation to promote tax breaks for brownfields reinvestments.
