520 _aThe Department for Education and Skills has announced that over the next three years it plans to replace, or substantially remodel, 650 schools, and to carry out major building work on a further 7,000. A considerable number of these projects will be financed under PFI. The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) has warned it has 'serious reservations' about the quality of educational buildings that result from the PFI process. Discusses these concerns. Also looks at a unique PFI scheme developed for Haverstock School in Camden, North London, and suggests this may serve as a good model for other PFI projects.
