520 _aThe construction industry is making slow progress in becoming more sustainable, and improving resource efficiency. Reviews new guidance, to be launched in October 2001, which could help overcome potential problems, and increase the amount of recycling and use of alternative materials, in the transport infrastructure sector. The latter includes earthworks, drainage and pavements required for roads, railways, airports and canals. The guidance, aimed at managers and technical personnel in all stakeholder groups, including local authorities, was funded by the DTI and the former DETR, and formulated by cross-industry experts.
