520 _aReports back on responses to a survey asking practictioners whether the planning system needs more resources. The survey found that planners in local government are very concerned about inadequate resources and believe this affects their performance. Many respondents said more staff are needed to meet targets, and called for more investment in training and IT to improve the status of their profession. Other common responses related to poor pay, over-heavy workloads and the eight-week deadline for processing planning applications as a measure of performance. Further responses to the survey will be reported in subsequent issues of "Planning".
