520 _aAnalysis of the proposed government green paper on the planning system. Originally the document was intended to address the issue of speeding up the decision making process, it will now take a broader look at the needs of urban areas. Regeneration minister Lord Falconer is promoting discussion with a range of interest groups. RICS and the Royal Town Planning Institute both openly call for the planning system to be simplified. Other themes in the green paper will include speeding up compulsory purchase order procedures and the separation of commercial and residential applications.
