520 _aExamines the 1999 edition of the FIDIC conditions of contract which are becoming increasingly popular in Europe as contractors operate across national borders. Recommends a new book to practitioners, "FIDIC users' guide - a practical guide to the 1999 Red Book" by Brian Totterdill which sets out the procedures that are required by the new editions. Explains how FIDIC deals with procedures in relation to claims; the right to extensions of time and increased payments is lost if notice of a claim is not given within 28 days of when the contractor 'became aware, or should have become aware, of the event' giving rise to the claim. Also considers FIDIC's use of the Dispute Adjudication Board as the chosen method of resolving disputes on an interim basis.
