_v27(1) January/February 2002, 22-25(3)
520 _aA ROOF investigation indicates that social landlords in England and Wales may have evicted 27,000 households during 2000, around 5.5 tenants per thousand homes in England and Wales. Taking figures from both ROOF and the National Housing Federation the NHF policy officer John Bryant thought these figures were 'encouragingly low'but others would argue that this is an alarmingly high statistic. The figures for England and Wales and Scotland show that rent arrears are responsible for up to 97% of all evictions while anti-social behaviour amounted to only 2 to 3% of all cases. Housing minister Lord Falconer told Roof that with the need for more data he would be looking at the most efficient way of getting more detailed statistics.
