520 _aExpert witnesses will no longer be able to enjoy immunity from prosecution under changes to the Civil Procedure Rules which come into effect March 2002; previously only RICS could punish bad practice. Witnessses could be found in contempt of court if they present the court with a false statement and could face prison or a fine. The new rules also reiterate that the expert witnesses main duty is to the court and not the client paying them.
