520 _aThe German economy only grew 0.6% in 2001 compared to 3.0 in 2000, the worst performance since 1993. Real rental growth in the office and industrial markets slowed considerably, while the retail sector bucked the national downturn. Research from Jones Lang Lasalle shows that occupier demand for office space fell markedly by approximately 12% in 2001. Industrial rents were hit by the technology slowdown and the market saw orders shrink more than 7% from a peak in late 2000.
