| 520 | _aThe date for implementing the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 is not until 2005 but surveyors should be aware that issues need to be addressed now . The mapping process is already under way and landowners may feel the need to challenge what is considered as open land as, in its final version, the map will not be reviewed for 10yrs. Other areas surveyors and landowners need to consider include agreeements between landowners and the Highways or National Park authorites to impose a means of access to open country, the rights landowners (including occupiers) to divert or close rights of way and the statutory right government departments and the Welsh Assembly have on preserving and enhancing biodiversity. Chartered surveyors should advise interested parties to register their views at the earliest possibility. The Act also offers opportunities for earning fees for members involved in rural land management. | ||
