260 _c2002
520 _a[2002] UKHL 22, 20 June 2002. HL has allowed an appeal in a test case Fairchild v Glenhaven Funeral Services Ltd and othes which could lead to further compensation claims by a large number of people affected by asbestos-related diseases. The HL overturned a CA ruling in December 2001 which effectively blocked compensation for individuals exposed to asbestos while working for more than one employer. The HL gave its decision verbally on 16 May 2002 due to the ill-health of one of the claimants ruling that compensation should be awarded to suffers of mesothelioma, an asbestos-related disease although it could not be established which employer was to blame. The decision may have implications for other negligence and produce liability claims. (See also Abs65719). View judgment at www.parliament.the-stationery-office.co.uk.
