_v27 June 2002, (2)
520 _aA survey by the National Farmers' Union (NFU) reveals that arable farmers are spending more time and money than ever protecting the countryside. The NFU questioned 2 000 English and Welsh farmers and found that all carried out some type of environmental work. The survey results hit back at accusations that farming causes unnecessary damage to the environment. Summary of survey available at http://www.nfu.org.uk/info/environmentJune02.asp. Full survey results and NFU publication "Looking after the landscape" available from the NFU Press Office, t +44(0)20 7331 7397 http://www.nfu.org.uk/pr/4027052/Envirosurvey.htm
