520 _aHousing and planning have received a major boost in the spending review with increases of more than £1bn in 2005-6 compared with 2002-3. Spending in these areas will be £4.7bn in 2005-6 - £1.4bn more than today. As well as this investment there will be comprehensive institutional reforms to housing and planning including the establishment of regional housing bodies and a single inspectorate for social housing. The government will also be seeking greater density of development.
