520 _aReports on UK consultants at the Johannesburg earth summit who are keen to promote global sustainability in construction and development. GABS (Global Alliance for Building Sustainability) is a new voluntary body. Led by the RICS foundation this coalition of professional industry bodies, non governmental organisations and government agencies hopes to present different strategies in cooperation with the market economy. It concedes that it will be very difficult to introduce regulations at national and internatonal level to bring in green buildings and others are sceptical about what a voluntary body can achieve. However, there are a number of general ideas such as best practice schemes that the alliance can start to transfer from the developed to the developing world.
