520 _aDiscusses the effect of the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 the final part of which is being implemented by the minister for small business at the DTI. The first stage was introduced on 1 November 1998 when big business and public sector bodies were affected by an 8% late payment chart. From 7 August 2002, this now applies to any size business to allow them to claim penalty interest from any slow payer. Argues that there is a need to clarify the possible ways forward when the late payer attempts to avoid paying interest.
