520 _aDiscusses the housing of ethnic minority communities focusing on research undertaken by the University of Birmingham's Centre for Urban and Regional Studies. As part of the work into the changing housing markets in the M62 corridor the places that faced race riots in the summer of 2001 were examined. With Asian communities often reluctant to live in social housing it was reported that young people from ethnic minority backgrounds were more willing to consider the option if it was provided in a multi-cultural area. Notes how in Oldham, the introduction of a choice-bases lettings scheme - Instant Homes has made a difference in proving the area is a safe place to live.
