520 _aExamines the development of the Channel Tunnel Rail link (CTRL) with its promise of much faster journey times for commuters and good returns for investors along the route. The CTRL will not open until 2007 but the strategic rail authority has already promised four trains per hour in peak periods with journey times from Ashford, which is one of the towns that stands to benefit from the route, cut to 37 minutes. The biggest scheme to be encouraged by the development is Stratford in East London where there are plans by Chelsfield and Stanhope for a 9m town centre extension. With a map of Kent towns that might benefit by the improved journey times and higher house prices.
