520 _aExamines results from Planning's sixth annual survey of planning consultants. Steady growth is still in prospect in most sectors despite last year's pessimistic predictions. The predictions do vary between sectors with retail remaining in the doldrums but with better prospects for this year. Further report that recruitment problems are holding back even faster growth in the rate of development of private planning firms. Also comments on the main bases for planning consultants around the country. Southern England is not surprisingly the main area, but consultancies are also spreading further afield including such areas as Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Leeds. With tables of fastest growers, major employers, fee earning capacity and the main planning teams in the UK regions.
