Following the recommendations of the Ministerial Advisory Panel on Illict Trade, the UK signed up to the Convention in August 2002 aimed at reducing illicit trade in cultural objects. Defines the term 'illicit trade'. Briefly outlines other legal provisions for the protection of cultural property including the "Undroit Convention on the International Return of Stolen or Illegallly Exported Objects 1995" which compliments the UNESCO Convention 1970, Council Directive 1993/7/EEC"(as amended) and "Council Regulation 3911/1992"(as amended).
