520 _aIntroduces and summarises the Law Commission's consultation paper "Land, valuation and housing tribunals" available at www.lawcom.gov.uk. The consultation paper was commissioned by the Lord Chancellor's Department in late 2002 to follow up the reforming ideas in the Leggatt report "Tribunals for users - one system, one service" published in August 2001. The consultation paper sets out options for the reform and rationalisation of the structure and jurisdictions of the Lands Tribunal (LT), Leasehold Valuation Tribunal (LVT), Rent Assessment Committees (RAC), Rent Tribunal (RT), Agricultural Land Tribunal, Commons Commissioners, Valuation Tribunal and the adjudicator to HM Land Registry. Describes three options: retaining the same tribunals with some rationalisation, amalgamation of current first tier tribunals and, most radically, a completely unified tribunal. Analyses the jurisdictional overlaps between the tribunals and associated problems. Predicts that the government will shortly be announcing plans for a new Tribunals Service.
