520 _aHigh density housing on brownfield land is government's answer to the housing crisis in London and southeast England, although many people still favour country homes. Article looks at different high density housing solutions, such as mixed tenure housing, and shows how good design can create successful urban communities. Examines two high density housing developments: Millennium Plus at the Nightingale Clapton, London E5, and Ravenswood southeast Ipswich, Suffolk. The Millenium Plus scheme replaced tower blocks with a mix of three-to-six-storey social and open market housing while the Ravenswood project is an urban village on a disused airfield.
