520 _aFeature by the Chairman of the RICS Boundaries and Party Walls Working Group discussing the legal remedies available to property owners and building owners to prevent neighbours from acquiring a right to light. A Notice of Notional Obstruction under the Rights of Light Act 1959 can be served on all owners of neighbouring properties. The Notice is served through the local authority and is registered as a land charge. The Notice needs to identify the site and the neighbouring property and usually states that it relates to a notional screen of unlimited height on the boundaries of the site. View at www.rics.org/bs.
