_v(pr085) 26 August 2003 (2)
520 _aInvestment in letting property appears to be on the increase with a sharp rise in the number of instructions to let residential property. Demand for rented property rose in the three months to July as first-time buyers found themselves unable to get on the property ladder. There was a drop in lettings in southeast England but elsewhere they held steady. RICS is calling on government to encourage insurance and pension fund investment in the residential market through Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), to stimulate diversity and growth in the market.
