The SEA Directive which must be implemented in the UK by 21 July 2004 covers a wide range of activities including consultation on the scope of the assessment, the provision of baseline information, consideration of alternatives, proposals for mitigation measures, monitoring of significant effects and quality assurance. It also stipulates what information should be contained in the environmental report which must be produced as part of the assessment. Considers how the SEA could be integrated in the existing and a future broader sustainable framework in the UK.
