520 _aThe Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) has issued timely guidance to local authority planners on how to protect design quality in the planning process. "Protecting design quality in planning" proposes nine key action points for planning authorities such as a pro-active approach, sound audit trails, particular care in handling of outline planning applications and scope to draft planning conditions. Lack of resources cannot be used as an excuse for allowing poor-quality designs. The CABE guidance is available at http://www.cabe.org.uk/3RNUrQpVyK6=IZRyh4HvOww/publications/index.html
