520 _aGives details of the latest Hays/Montrose salary survey 2003. This shows that prices on contractors' heads are outstripping inflation in every area with the biggest increases for those at the start of their careers. Assistant quantity surveyors' pay rose by 12.3% last year but there was a difference between the regions with pay in central London stagnating but increasing markedly elsewhere, especially in the East Midlands.
