_vWater Supplement 16 October 2003, 21(1)
520 _aLooks at the problems of diffuse water pollution, its causes, and ways of minimising the problem. A key concern of the Water Framework Directive (Directive 2000/60/EC) is water quality. From 2012 it will cover many sources of water pollution, and these will include run off from drains and agricultural land. The article examines sustainable drainage systems. Whilst these are useful in reducing run-off peaks, they are also helpful in dealing with diffuse pollution.
