The Crofters (Scotland) Act 1993 fails crofters in a number of ways with regard to wind farming. Firstly, that there are crofters complicates any already complex negotiations which means more time and more risk. Secondly, it is not clear if crofters can contract out of their own protections. The Western Isles have been endorsed by Energy Ministers as a suitable location for renewable energy production.
