520 _aComments on the draft Planning Policy Statement 6 "Planning for town centres" (PPS6), which is out to consultation until 15 March. Notes that there is praise from business for some aspects of the policy, notably for the call to make local authorities make specific plans for town centres and for development to be spread among smaller centres. There is also favourable comment from out-of-town retailers that PPS6 has ended disaggregation demands and sequential tests for store extensions. Concerns range from the over emphasis on town centre developments which may exclude certain leisure operators as they would struggle to find suitable sites. The encouragement to concentrate bars and nightclubs into distinct leisure quarters is also causing worry as it could create trouble spots and anti-social behaviour. The likely publication date for PPS6 is late June to mid-July and the ODPM is due to publish its guidance "Applying the sequential approach" in Autumn 2004
