520 _aReports on the role of approved inspectors, Building Regulations 2000 Approved Document B and fire authorities in approving fire safe buildings. Reviews the powers of approved inspectors and illustrates how the regulations can be interpreted. Particularly highlights the issues of single-storey retail units and raised storage platforms. Stresses the importance of consultation between building control bodies and fire authorities. Recommends dealing with issues which arise under the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 at the Building Regulations stage, rather than leaving the client to satisfy the fire authority following the issue of the final certificate. Concludes that problems can be minimised if communication is paramount in the consultation process.
