Briefly traces its history as a new town. Refers to the post-war period, the winding up of the Stevenage Development Corporation in 1990, and plans to build new affordable homes in the 1990s and 2000 onwards. A revamp of the town centre is planned. Stevenage BC and English Partnerships have appointed a consortium of Stanhope and ING Real Estate Development UK as the preferred developer. It is expected that the consortium will submit a planning application for a new retail development linking to the existing retail area at the end of 2005.
