| 520 | _aExamines the government consultation paper on Upward Only Rent Reviews (UORRs) and argues that some occupiers might not welcome a ban on them. The government paper contains six possible options for UORRs including ideas to ban upward only rent reviews subject to a floor on the initial rent or an option to require landlords to give prospective tenants a choice of terms at fair prices. Gives reasons why some occupiers might oppose a ban on UORRs; their abolition may result in shorter leases which would probably be excluded from the protection of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 whilst rents which were fixed for five years may well instead be reviewed every year. | ||
