520 _aExamines the recommendations of the parliamentary All Party Mobile Group's report "Mobile phone masts: planning for the future", which looks at the planning issues surrounding mobile phone masts. Although the supporting infrastructure for mobile phone network technology is in place, mobile phone use growth has resulted in an increasing demand for base stations. The report seeks the revocation of permitted development rights for base stations, a review of the telecommunications provisions of the General Permitted Development Order, amendments to PPG8 relating to public consultation arrangements and the introduction of mandatory telecommunications plans as part of local development frameworks. It also recommends the adoption of common digital mapping techniques, a precautionary approach to mast location, increased application fees and the establishment of a national joint body involving government, the industry, local authorities and the regulator.
