520 _aAssessment of the effect of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 which has recently come into force. Points out that it has many implications for construction professionals with the firms able to access details held by a public authority on its competitors. This could include prices and rates submitted by a competitor in previous bids and information about the strengths and weaknesses of the company in the discharge of its contracts. Some information is exempt from disclosure but such exemptions will depend on a public interest test. Notes that the Lord Chancellor has advised authorities to reject putting confidentiality clauses in their contracts unless they are absolutely necessary.
