520 _aLooks at "The future of green belts in Scotland", a report by the recently formed Scottish Green Belt Alliance (SGBA), a loose association of community based groups seeking to update policy from the perspective of communities. The Scottish Executive is currently revising its 1985 guidance on green belts, "Development in the countryside and green belts". The SGBA report reviews the purposes of green belts and the pressures eroding their effectiveness, examines various spatial models and puts forward it's own ideas for a revised green belt policy. It envisages green belts as inherently compatible with the aims of sustainability and bio-diversity and promotes criterion-based reviews of green belts. View the report at www.greenbelts.ukos.com.
