Summarises the issues surrounding asbestos inspections as outlined in the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002. RICS has recently announced obtaining professional indemnity for its members to carry out asbestos surveys, but they must first successfully complete a training course. Training course provision has been delayed due to the reluctance of the insurance industry to cover the surveyors. Suggests the backlog of surveys needed will take building surveyors four or five years to complete.
