520 _aReports on the development of SAPOS, the satellite positioning service created through a project of the Working Committee of the Surveying Authorities of the States of the Federal Republic of Germany. Consisting of a network of more than 250 permanently observing reference stations nationwide ensuring spatial reference data based on the Europe-wide standardised reference system ETRS89. Covers the basic principles of differential GPS in real-time, real-time networking of reference stations and postprocessing. Discusses the SAPOS data formats and communication media and looks at the main SAPOS products: SAPOS HEPS (High Precision Real-time Positioning Service); SAPOS EPS (Real-Time Positioning Service); and SAPOS GPPS/GHPS (Geodetic Precision/High Precision Positioning Service). A SAPOS central bureau was established in Hannover in 2003. Concludes that SAPOS has opened up a new horizon for GPS measurements in Germany.
