Questions whether qualified surveyors will dominate the open market for these new services, or will the public go for trained but less experienced builders or estate agents. The ODPM has estimated that 7 000 licensed inspectors will have to be trained by 2007. Some chartered surveyors are angry that it will cost them between £1 600 and £1 800 to qualify as home inspectors and that the ODPM has made the process too difficult whereas others see the new system as a huge opportunity for surveyors.
