520 _a"Planning Policy Statement 6: planning for town centres"(PPS6) replaces "Revised Planning Policy Guidance Note 6: town centres and retail developments" (PPG6) and subsequent policy statements. The policies in PPS6 apply throughout England and focus on a range of issues relating to planning for the future of town centres and the main uses that relate to them. The key features of PPS6 are: continued emphasis on the need to promote the vitality and viability of town centres; enhancement of consumer choice; improvement of accessibility; encouragement of investment in disadvantaged areas; delivery of more sustainable patterns of development and promotion of high quality; high density and inclusive design. Proposes that developers of groups of retail and leisure units in edge-of-centre or out-of-centre locations should consider accommodating some of the units on more centrally located sites in accordance with PPS6's objectives and policies.
