520 _aArgues that government thinking in its January 2005 consultation on household size and dwelling size and type, "Planning for mixed communities", is misguided and too narrow in focus. The proposed revisions to "Planning Policy Guidance 3: Housing" (PPG3) introduce different mechanisms for planning for the mix of affordable and market housing; including planning for affordable housing which continues to be based on size and type, whereas planning for market housing now focuses on the needs of a range of households. Suggests the consultation should have talked about lifetime homes, live-work dwellings, part-time working and increased working from home. It should have raised the game in terms of new development to provide homes that are flexible and offer lifetime accommodation, that apply high energy-conservation standards and create genuinely integrated communities. The final form of the revised PPG3 should give the national planning policy support for all these matters. Note.
