520 _aExplains how the new system of electronically generated stamp duty land tax (SDLT) forms will work. HM Revenue and Customs plans to get all taxpayers and/or their lawyers to complete SDLT returns online in real time but a fully operational system was not ready in time for the introduction of the new tax. New two-dimensional bar codes now appear at the bottom of all SDLT1 returns that have been electronically generated and from 1 July 2005 all electronically created forms submitted to HM Revenue and Customs must bear these bar codes. The introduction of filing by internet is expected some time in 2005. However a full e-conveyancing system remains a distant prospect with the possible trial of a pilot system in 2006/07.
