520 _aExamines the right to drive mechanically propelled vehicles on public rights of way and the proposed changes currently being debated in the Natural and Rural Communities Bill If enacted, provisions in cl62 of the Bill will prevent any further green lanes and tracks being established as public rights of way for mechanically propelled vehicles. Off-road motoring and biking organisation have been adept at proving the status of ancient highways to get definitive map modifications through orders under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 which goes against current government policy. Concludes that the bill draws an artificially sharp distinction between those who would cite ancient highway status as the basis of sport and leisure use and those who use green lanes for access.
