| 520 | _aA report by the Strategic Forum claims that bad logistics costs the construction industry £3 billion each year. This article examines the main barriers to improving logistics, and makes recommendations to improve matters. These include the preparation of a Logistics Plan at the commencement of a project, the drawing-up of a process map by designers, and manufacturers making the costs of transporting materials and components transparent. It also suggests that logistics CPD modules be taught in universities and colleges. The report estimates that savings of up to 30% could be realised if logistics were improved. The article also reports on a consolidation centre trial being used for building projects in the City of London. | ||
