520 _aSurveys recent trends in home ownership affordability using both aggregate and regional measures. Looks at the housing market context, affordability measures and sustainability. Pressures on affordability increased through much of 2004 but affordability has stabilised in recent quarters as house price growth has fallen below household income growth and mortgage interest rates have eased. Concludes that a significant improvement in affordability is unlikely without greater house building in areas where household growth is strong. Charts and tables. References.
